Cocoa Beach's A1A

World Famous and Nostalgic Coastal Highway

Sunday July 15, 2018

Jimmy Buffet's A1A album in the 1970's was released a couple of decades after the east coast roadway was renumbered from State Road 140 then to State Road 1 and in 1946 was renamed to A1A to avoid confusion with US Route 1. Driving Florida's east coast from Jacksonville to Key West on A1A is a great way to spend a few days discovering what Florida has to offer.

Brevard County host a section of A1A that presently starts north in the town of Cape Canaveral and ends at the Sebastian Inlet bridge on the south border line. The space center took out some of A1A in the 1950's and is now on restricted property used by employees of Kennedy Space Center and Canaveral Airforce Station, but you can start your A1A journey in Brevard if you are heading north to south by heading across on State Road 528 east which turns into A1A and turns southward along the beaches.

Along A1A you'll pass thru towns and cities like Cape Canaveral, Cocoa Beach, Patrick Airforce Base, Satellite Beach, Indian Harbour Beach, Indiatlantic, Melbourne Beach and ending at Sebastian Inlet State Park. It's a great way to spend a better part of the day exploring forty miles or so of Florida's coastline.

Cocoa Beach's main artery on the East Coast of Florida is the famous A1A both scenic and commercial. Drive this highway enjoy some of Florida's coastline.
